Angelino Alfano: Performance of Elections in Lebanon Strengthens the Institutions of the Lebanese State

Beirut, 07 May 2018 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, said: “Allow me to express my congratulations for the performance of parliamentary elections in Lebanon yesterday, to which several thousand Lebanese living abroad also participated for the first time. The holding of elections once again confirms the Lebanese citizens’ traditional attachment to the values of liberty and democracy. It also represents the further strengthening of the Institutions of the Lebanese State and the first bulwark against all threats to the Country’s stability. Italy reaffirms the traditional friendship between our two peoples, as testified by the conference recently held in Rome last 15 March to support Lebanese security forces, by the UNIFIL’s relevant and persisting engagement and our close bilateral relations in trade and in the field of the economy and culture.”
